Happy, Healthy Bloodline

The two most common Doberman hair color is the black and rust  and the red and rust Doberman.

Seen much less often, and not recommended for breeding by our standards the Doberman dog is also born in a fawn color and a blue color.

Blue Dobermans and fawn Dobermans are both color dilutions. The fawn Doberman, is a diluted red. The blue Doberman is a dilute of black.

*** ALBINISM - "white coated" and "white factored" Dobermans should NOT be bred. These dogs are *TYROSINASE POSITIVE ALBINOS*. In 1996, the AKC established a tracking system (the letter "Z" will be part of the registration number) allowing breeders to identify the normal colored Dobermans which may carry the albinistic gene. All buyers should require an AKC certified pedigree with colors to check that "white coated" and "white factored" dogs are not present in the pedigree of the dog

The Doberman has been known to have some health issues, but with proper knowledge of a puppy’s heritage, many can be avoided. Some of the issues to watch for are Von Willebrand’s Disease, a blood disorder that causes excessive bleeding. Another issue to be aware of is Wobbler’s Syndrome, which is a genetic issue caused by the compression of the spinal cord. Some Dobermans are Predisposed to Heart Disease. ... In 2011, Meurs discovered genetic mutations in Doberman Pinschers that cause heart disease. In Dobies, the mutation triggers dilated cardiomyopathy, an adult onset heartmuscle disease that can lead to sudden death or congestive heart failure.

.

Again, making sure there is no history of these issues in a Doberman puppy’s bloodline is a good way to protect you from getting a dog with these issues. If you want the steady, protective, intelligent Doberman of your dreams, be prepared to do your due dilligence to find him.
